OK. I didn't take the gold but it was still pretty cool to be among the winners of the inaugural Theodore C. Sorensen Speechwriting Awards.
The awards were sponsored by Ragan Communications and presented by Sorenson - speechwriter and counselor for President John F. Kennedy - and long-time PR guru Fraser Seitel during the 2009 Speechwriters Conference in Washington, DC.
Laure Vincent, who writes for MasterCard Worldwide, won the top prize. Chris Baker of Public Broadcasting Service was the first runner-up. Here's the Ragan story.
Seitel gave a great roundup story about Sorensen's speech before the awards ceremony.
If you want to hear Sorensen's remarks and Q/A session, go to Ian Griffin's nifty blog where he has video.
Flether,
Congrats. I'm trying not to be envious, but I would love to have met Sorensen, a man whose speeches and philosophy I admire so much.
Best, Chris
